By type of business

Fast food

Counter accounts by name, sent to the kitchen and charged at handover.

What it is for

At a fried chicken place, a pizzeria or a burger joint there are no tables: the customer orders at the counter, the kitchen prepares it and they pay when it is handed over. Pixel One handles it with tabs by name: "Ashley, to go", "Carlos's order". Each tab goes to the kitchen in rounds and is charged at the point of sale, like in a restaurant but without a dining room.

The business type it covers

Fast food (fried chicken, pizza, burgers, fried food). It comes with:

  • Tabs, Kitchen and Tables and stations in the menu, in counter mode: no tables, each open order is a tab with a name.
  • Its catalog is called Menu, with the categories Combos, Meals, Sides and Drinks.
  • Allow selling without stock turned on, so you do not have to load each dish before selling it.
  • No tip: unlike the restaurant, it does not turn it on.

The restaurant, the coffee shop and the bar, which serve at the table, have their own guide: Restaurant, café and bar.

Before you start

  • Your menu loaded in the Catalog (it is called Menu), with its categories.
  • Your kitchen stations in Tables and stations, and which station each category goes to (combos to the kitchen, drinks to the bar). Without a station, the dish shows only on the all-stations screen.
  • The Serve tables permission (or Invoice) to open tabs, and Kitchen screen for whoever cooks.
  • An open cash register to charge (Your first day).

Your typical day

  1. You open the cash register and turn on the Kitchen screen.
  2. A customer arrives: you open a tab with their name and add what they order.
  3. You send it to the kitchen: the order shows up on its station's screen.
  4. The kitchen marks it ready; you hand it over and charge the tab at the point of sale.
  5. At the end of the day, you close the cash register with the Z.

The open tabs

Tabs shows each open order with its name, what it owes, its number, who is serving it and how many minutes it has been open. At the top, Kitchen, Tables and stations and New tab.

1. Take the order

  1. Open the tab

Click New tab. Type the Name you will call the customer by ("John, takeout") and the Guests. Click Open tab. You are recorded as the one serving it.

  2. Add the dishes

On the left is the menu, with the same search box as the point of sale (it also takes the scanner) and the categories. Tap each dish: it goes on the tab as Not sent. Change the quantity with - and +; in the line's menu, Note leaves a message for the kitchen ("no onion") and Remove deletes it.

  3. Send it to the kitchen

Click Send to kitchen (the number says how many dishes go). That round reaches its station's screen and its lines become In the kitchen. If the customer orders something else, add it and send another round.

2. The kitchen

The Kitchen screen shows one ticket per tab and round, with its minutes: amber after 15 and red after 25. One tap moves a dish to Preparing and then to Ready; All ready marks the whole ticket. Choose the station at the top (All or yours) and click Turn on sound so each new round rings.

When the kitchen is done, you see the ready dishes on the tab. When you hand them over, mark them Served. The kitchen screen is explained in full in Restaurant, café and bar.

3. Charge at handover

  1. Click Charge

On the tab, Charge offers Whole tab, By dish (you tick which) or Equal parts, if several people pay separately. Each option opens the point of sale with those lines.

  2. Charge like any sale

The point of sale brings the tab's dishes and does not let you add others or change the quantities. Charge in cash, by card or by transfer and click Confirm. Once everything is charged, the tab closes.

If the customer wants to see the total before paying, Guest check prints an 80 mm ticket that is not a tax document.

Tip

For what does not go through the kitchen (a soda, a dessert from the counter), sell it directly at the Point of sale, without opening a tab.

By country

Menu prices are typed without tax and the sales tax is added at checkout. See United States.

Common mistakes

  • "The order does not show up in the kitchen." It was not sent: click Send to kitchen. If it was, check the station chosen on the screen, or which station its category goes to in Tables and stations.
  • "The kitchen does not ring." The browser keeps a page silent until you touch it: click Turn on sound once.
  • "At the point of sale I cannot add another product." While you charge a tab, the point of sale only charges its dishes. Add it to the tab, or charge it separately.
  • "I cannot void a dish that was already sent." What the kitchen received can only be voided with a reason and the permission to void dishes.
  • "I cannot charge." Open a cash register first.
